Default drive shaft problem

I hear that u can add 3/4" to the coupling, then why cant you just cut the drive shaft in 1/2 and add a 1/2 " to it to stop the wobble. Just asking because I added 5 tie straps between the coupling and shaft and it quit making noise. Has any one tried it
