Default neutral safety switch

Hi Guys and Gals

I have a 2002 grizzly 660 and am can't start my bike anymore when in gear. I have to put it in neutral or park all the time now. Is this an easy fix or is there a safety switch that has to be replaced. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Grizzlybear

down by the foot brake there is a switch. there is a cable from the hand brake lever going to the switch, many guys just disconnect the cable and zip tie the switch in the "closed" position to override the system and allow you to start it anytime.
chances are that your switch is either bad or the cable is disconnected.

Hammer,

Did this change on the '04? My '04 Grizz 660 has the switch on the bars behind the brake lever. Pulling the lever pushes the switch plunger and activates the neutral overide switch. Mine doesn't work either and I too have to do the N or P switch to start. Guess it will be another trip to the Yamaha dealer to drop a few more $$$

i believe the one on the bars is for the brake light, but i could be wrong. the 700's and 550's have the switch for starting with the brake lever pulled on the bars, but the 660 should be the one at the foot pedal.
now you've got me thinkin'. the cable for the shift lock is at the foot pedal and there is also a switch at the pedal.....Hmmmm i'll have to run down to the garage and double check

Hammer ...

I know for sure it's a N/P switch, I had mine apart and fixed it briefly. Now it's crapped out again.

I have a 2002 660 and the micro switch on my left hand brake is for starting in gear. I pulled the switch out of the mount about a 1/4 and it starts in gear without the brake
