Rebuild?

Ok guys, I am thinking about doing a top end rebuild, this is why.
It has starting smoking when giving it gas not when idling at all. I pulled the plug and it had oil on the threads, checked the oil it was very low. It is not hard to start cranks right up. When i reach 29mph it acts like it is hitting the rev limiter. I think that might be electrical.

I have drowned it out a couple of times and always changed the oil and cleaned it after every time.

So what do you think is it time to tear into it?

Older griz locker

I have broken a CV for the second time. I have a locked(welded) front end. I have to take the thing apart again to fix it, and I was thinking of adding a Detroit locker to it. I was wondering if anyone else had used a Detroit locker on an older Griz. I completely want a locked front end, but it would be nice to have the easier steering again. I would like to hear from anyone who has installed and used one.

Thanx

the second week we had the bike -- the last saturday of august -- found a little mudd left in the woods -- and not much rain in southern jersey for over a month now , so puddles are hard to come by.
i am suprised the wife on the back didnt ask to get off -- and my 6 year old son thought he was on a amusement park ride -- he was yelling the whole time -- he loved it.. made buying the bike way worth it :s_good:

went all over the water hole and the last place i looked i knew was deep and went for it anyway. should of known better since i knew it was clay and sand hole and had terrible grip with stock tires.

now i know everyone of my new found friends here are looking and saying "how the hell did he get stuck there"? it doesnt look that deep -- well it is very sandy and silty clay -- but i am gonna have to admit and i am very embarrassed here to do it , but i will tell -- i put the bike in 4 wheel drive - THE RED BUTTON - which is not locked 4 wheel - i did make the atempt to slide the switch cover and press the yellow locking dif -- i swore i hit the switch and it was in locking 4 wheel drive -- i myself could not believe i was stuck and had to use the winch , but i was happy i had the winch to get out.
funny thing is -- when we were leaving the pit i wanted to put everything back into 2 wheel drive for the ride home , so i hit the yellow button and this bright as hell red light lights up that apparently tells you that you are in locked 4 wheel drive --- oh my god !!! guess i should know how to use something before i go out --- :laugh1:
